24/7 Network Monitoring
At WCS we recognize the quality of our service directly relates to the success of our wholesale customers and that the WCS Network Operations Center is integral to ensuring excellent service to our customers. As such we have invested heavily in state-of-the-art equipment and in recruiting, training and retaining the best service personnel in the industry. Below we describe the equipment we use in more detail.
Network Monitoring Platform
WCS utilizes the Harris Network Monitoring (HNM) platform. This application provides Network Monitoring, Fault Management, and Trend Analysis with collection and archiving of all messages from the 5ESS Lucent Switches, Alcatel Digital Cross Connect Switches, LAN/WAN Network Devices and Building Environmental Alarms. HNM gives output of any alarms generated on our WCS network. This allows us the capability to quickly respond to an alarm, determine the root cause, and then resolve the issue.
The HNM is an important tool for the NOC and in servicing your telecommunication services because it allows the NOC to be proactive in some instances and immediately reactive in others. Proactive, because it allows WCS to constantly monitor our network equipment and environment to ensure it is functioning properly. Immediately reactive because the advanced technology allows us the capability to continuously monitor your network for issues, even while you are not in your office. WCS is working on your behalf, even when you’re not working or seeing the initial trouble.
Applied Digital Access
WCS uses Lucent’s Applied Digital Access (ADA) as its Graphical User Interface (GUI) for Remote Testing of Applications. It provides graphical circuit displays with remote test access into each Digital Access Cross-Connect System (DACS) unit at each of WCS’s switch sites. This enables circuit breakdown, testing and troubleshooting which reduces new service turn-up intervals, Mean Time to Repair (MTR), and reductions of labor expenses associated with root cause analysis. Both NOC and switch WCS technicians utilize this application.
Trunk Line Work Station
WCS utilizes Lucent’s Trunk Line Work Station application, which is a direct link into any and all of the WCS switches. This allows us to build features, make routing changes, and perform any translations necessary to the switches. Both NOC and WCS switch technicians utilize this application.
